Plush Tech Pack & Spec Sheet: What to Include
The spec document that turns approved artwork into a buildable plush — and keeps bulk matching the sample you signed off.
A plush tech pack (spec sheet) is the written blueprint a factory builds from. A complete one covers multi-angle drawings with key dimensions and tolerances, a bill of materials (fabrics, fill, eyes, accessories, trims), construction and stitching notes, face/artwork files with placement, colour references (Pantone), and the label, hangtag, packaging and carton spec. It turns the approved sample into measurable standards so every department works from the same reference and bulk matches what you approved.
Why a tech pack matters
An approved sample shows what “good” looks like, but a factory still needs written, measurable standards to reproduce it across thousands of units. The tech pack is that reference: the more precisely it defines the product, the less each department has to interpret, and the less bulk drifts from the sample.
What a complete plush tech pack covers

Tolerances and a change log
Two details separate a working tech pack from a sketch. Tolerances state how much variation is acceptable per measurement, so “close” is defined, not argued. A versioned change log records every revision and approval date, so the factory always builds from the latest agreed version — not an old email.

What is the difference between a brief and a tech pack?
A brief is your early RFQ input — concept, size, quantity, market and references — used to scope and quote. A tech pack is the detailed, measurable spec finalised around the approved sample: dimensions, tolerances, BOM, construction, colour and packaging. The brief starts the project; the tech pack controls production.
Do I need a tech pack if I send a physical sample?
A physical sample helps a lot, but it still needs written standards — dimensions, tolerances, BOM, colour and packaging — so the factory can measure bulk against it. If you have a sample or clear images, JWC can help build the matching spec sheet.
What tolerance is normal for plush?
Tolerances are tighter on facial features and looser on body areas; a few millimetres is common, but the exact figures are set per project and written into the spec. The point is to agree them before bulk, not to assume an industry default.
